Q&A with Michael Marlowe Uy, Partner at SKY Law

As part of our continued focus on talent, specifically, the younger professionals working at Alliott Global Alliance member firms in the APAC region, we recently caught up with Michael Marlowe Uy, a recently promoted Partner at our law firm member SKY Law in Metro Manila, the Philippines. We asked him to share with us why he chose a career in law, what motivates him and what he values from being part of the Alliance.

I am a Partner at SKY Law, a law firm based in Metro Manila, Philippines.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE LAW AS YOUR CAREER?

I get to strategize and be creative in either preventing problems from happening or providing solutions to different problems.

WHAT IS THE BEST PART OF YOUR JOB?

For some, it may be the adrenaline rush when litigating a high-stakes case or receiving a favorable court decision or arbitral award. But for me, the best part is receiving a message from a client that they appreciate the work I have done for them. 

WHAT IS YOUR FIRM'S DIFFERENCE IN YOUR OPINION?

For a 3-year-old law firm where everyone is currently under 40 years of age, our core practice areas (corporate law and M&A, intellectual property, labor, and employment, as well as dispute resolution) have been recognized by the IFLR1000 and the Asian Legal Business (ALB). These are testament to our firm’s work ethic, collaborative culture, and strong resolve to offer cost-efficient, innovative, and quality legal service in the Philippines. 

WHAT DO YOU CONSIDER TO BE YOUR BIGGEST ACHIEVEMENT TO DATE?

This is not the easiest question to answer, but perhaps passing the gruelling 2014 Philippine Bar Examination when only 18.82% of examinees passed that particular year can be considered my biggest achievement from a professional standpoint.
