This year’s event was held at the iconic El Pardoo Hotel from October 1-2, gathering a dynamic group of IP professionals and industry leaders. On the second day, Peter delivered a keynote address, sharing valuable insights on trademark strategies tailored for technology companies.

During his presentation, Peter offered an in-depth exploration of vital trademark protection strategies for technology companies operating in China. He highlighted notable cases, including Tesla’s recent trademark victory, which underscored the importance of "well-known trademark" protections, and Apple's landmark case that tackled the regional complexities of trademark rights. Peter emphasized how tech companies can effectively navigate the evolving intellectual property landscape in China, particularly given the enhanced enforcement capabilities now in place.

Peter also participated in a roundtable discussion, where he and other panelists addressed the practical challenges and effective strategies for safeguarding IP in the tech sector. This interactive session allowed attendees to engage directly with experienced leaders in the field. Peter outlined four key trademark strategies for tech companies entering the Chinese market:

Firstly, an offensive strategy that involves registering trademarks as early as possible. Secondly, Peter outlined a defensive strategy aimed at preventing competitors from "free-riding." This approach allows companies to register similar trademarks for the same goods, enabling them to use one while reserving others for future use, thus satisfying use requirements. Additionally, he highlighted the importance of creating a unique logo to enhance brand recognition.

Lastly, Peter stressed the significance of an enforcement strategy, noting that authorities are now imposing stricter penalties on trademark infringers.
