20 February 2018
Jurisdiction challenge win demonstrates deep banking sector expertise within Alliott Group and the effectiveness of cross border collaboration among alliance members.
"This is a great example of the results we can achieve in other jurisdictions working with local experts through our membership of the Alliott Group."
Guy Longhurst, Managing Partner, Ellisons Solictors.
Associate Solicitor Scott Porter, a key member of Ellisons Solicitors' Lender Services team, recently won a jurisdiction challenge for a large Northern Irish bank introduced to the firm by Belfast law member John McKee Solictors.
Proceedings were issued against the bank in Northern Ireland, with Scott collaborating closely with Chris Ross and his team at John McKee Solicitors in Belfast, to mount a jurisdiction challenge. The team contested that the proceedings should not have been brought in Northern Ireland because England was the proper jurisdiction.
Commenting on the win, Guy Longhurst, Managing Partner at Ellisons, comments: "Jurisdiction challenges are always 'challenging', but we are delighted that the team secured a win for the bank and also a costs order in the bank’s favour. This is a great example of the results we can achieve in other jurisdictions working with local experts through our membership of the Alliott Group."
