Biography

Peter practises primarily in the areas of securities, corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions and corporate governance. Peter brings exceptional experience in the oil and gas, mining and natural resource industries in particular, and in his practice at the firm has worked for both issuers and investment banks. Prior to joining the firm, Peter served as General Counsel to Frontera Energy Corporation (formerly Pacific Exploration & Production/Pacific Rubiales Energy), Gran Colombia Gold Corp. and Bolivar Gold Corp., among others, and has worked as a corporate and securities lawyer since 1988 in Toronto and, for two years, in Tokyo. For over 22 years he worked as chief legal counsel to a group that started up and developed over a dozen public companies, primarily in the resources sector. In this role, Peter gained extensive experience in all forms of financing and M&A activity, particularly reverse takeovers, and was involved in transactions worth over a cumulative $15 billion. This role also gave him wide experience in corporate governance and internal management matters, contested proxy battles and ownership transitions, and he worked closely as Secretary and strategic advisor to the boards and management of these public companies. He successfully led Frontera through the largest CCAA filing of 2016 and has worked with many issuers to help them restructure their balance sheets and businesses. Peter is a graduate of the Institute of Corporate Directors at the Rotman School of Business (University of Toronto) and is a former member of the Listings Advisory Committee of the TSX. He is active in the community, having helped raise funds for Right To Play, a charity dedicated to enhancing individual self-worth through the power of play, as well as the Scarborough Rouge Hospital Foundation, which supports Toronto's largest community base and largest concentration of New Canadians.
